SPIN Contest Sets MLO's Goals on Headlining SXSW

PopChips Spin Magazine

September 13th, 2011

When SPIN Magazine and PopChips created a contest to send one lucky band to headline at South by Southwest, Minutes Like Ours jumped on the opportunity. Presented by Reverbnation, MLO submitted their single "Lights Out," to be considered for the contest. After receiving an email that they were selected as one of the fifty bands to represent New York, "Lights Out" was available for a FREE download for two weeks with each download counting as a vote. Minutes Like Ours skyrocked to the top of the New York Charts, claiming first place within two days. With the top four bands advancing to the finals, Minutes Like Ours once again have their fans to thank for getting them one step closer to SXSW.

"It's unbelievable how great our fans are," said leadman Matt Maher. "We were so excited to be able to give a free song away in exchange for a vote. I remember checking our position within the first couple hours and we had already hit 100 downloads, it was unreal."

The final part of the competition is going to be a challenging but fun adventure for MLO. They must make a video documentary of their band planning, booking, and performing a show. The video must showcase the inspiration behind the show, a live recorded version of a song of their choice, and their fans' reactions. This video will be judged by David Marchese, the senior editor of SPIN Magazine, as well as three other industry professionals.

Details about the location and time of the Minutes Like Ours show will be posted here shortly!

New Single "Static Thoughts" Now Available Worldwide

Static Thoughts

June 1st, 2011

Minutes Like Ours have just released their newest hit single, "Static Thoughts." Coming off their XBox 360 Rock Band release of Lights Out MLO hit Nada Studios in New Windsor, NY and recorded Static Thoughts.

"This song is just so fun to listen to," says guitarist Damon Kost. "When we were writing it, we had such a good time that we really hoped that would correlate into the final recording. The truth is, the recording exceeded our expectations and came out fantastic."

Minutes Like Ours debuted their new song Static Thoughts at The Chance in Poughkeepsie, and the crowd reaction was everything lead man Matt Maher hoped for. "Whenever you play a brand new song in front of fans, you're taking a risk. We had so much confidence in this song though, the reaction the crowd had was exactly what I hoped for. The big clap started right away, and I saw so many kids jumping around and having a blast. In essence, that's what Static Thoughts is all about. The irony of the song lies within its cynical lyrics mixed with a feel good sound and up-beat tempo. It's wonderfully contradiction!"

What happened on this wonderful Sunday afternoon? A day filled with motorcycle rides, raffles, delicious food, music, and some heart warming stories.

"When you see some of these kids afflicted with Cystic Fibrosis, and how they're so full of life, it's truly inspiring. It puts everything in perspective.
